FAMILIES IN ACTION

On behalf of the Families In Action PTO, WELCOME to the 2010-2011 school year!  Whether your family is new to Wee Wuns or returning to our very special school, we extend to you the warmest of welcomes.

Families In Action (FIA) supports Wee Wuns by raising funds needed for supplies, equipment, staff training, and student scholarships, all of which are expenses beyond what our tuition covers.  We do this by planning exciting events that are fun for our students, parents and community.  In addition, FIA hosts a week of staff appreciation activities in the spring to show the awesome Wee Wuns staff how much we appreciate all that they do for our children.

You are cordially invited to join FIA.  It’s fun and free, and the benefits to the children of Wee Wuns are invaluable!  Our first meetings will be Wednesday, October 8th and Thursday, October 9th at 9:00 am upstairs in the Wesley Building.  In these first meetings we will discuss leadership position availability and all the years’ fundraisers. We will begin work on our first fundraiser, the Fall Festival, right away.  Childcare will be available for future meetings.  Please see the below descriptions of all the FIA opportunities.  We look forward to meeting you!

FIA Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions

Hospitality Chair - Coordinates refreshments for FIA meetings.  Plans FIA social events such as movie days, guest speakers and Moms’ night out.  Helps with FIA membership recruitment.  Coordinates gifts for Wee Wuns families in need (i.e. new baby, illness or family tragedy)

Fall Festival - Fall Festival is our largest fund raiser, and a fantastic event for the children of Wee Wuns and the Cypress Community!  The coordinator position could be for one or two people who will oversee all aspects of Fall Festival through an awesome team of committee chairs and volunteers.  This year’s festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 30th.

Silent Auction – Stephanie Shirley will coordinate the auction this year.  She can use the help of a co-coordinator and will also need assistance from others in contacting businesses for donations as well as helpers the day of the auction

Food - Every year, we have very generous sponsors who donate delicious food for us to sell at our festival.  The food coordinator(s) will work with sponsors to organize food donations, and will coordinate and oversee our volunteer food servers the day of the festival.

Bake Shop – Just like last year Angela Mitchell needs help organizing and labeling all the baked good, judging the cupcake contest and setting up the shop the day and evening prior to the festival.

Games – Kelly Dennis did a great job last year.  This year she will need assistance with prizes as well as set up the day of.

Classroom Projects – All Wee Wuns classes will create an item to be auctioned off at Fall Festival.  Monica Herring will need lots of volunteers to get all of the projects completed on time.

Classroom Baskets - Each class also contributes a themed basket to the Fall Festival silent auction.  Shannon Hayes will need helpers to assist in coordinating themes with the teachers, collecting items and baskets, creating lists of the baskets contents, and assembling the baskets.

Costume Contest - The Chairperson will be responsible for organizing the entries and running the contest at the Festival.

Holiday Market - The first weekend in December vendors set up shop in the MAC to sell jewelry, clothes, candles, gift items, etc.  The coordinator and team would be responsible for acquiring vendors and organizing the event.  The coordinator of previous years, Michelle Imler, will be assisting.

Original Artworks – This is a spring fundraiser in which your child’s artwork is turned into priceless keepsakes like t-shirts, totebags, magnets, coffee mugs, and more. Suzi Brown is a veteran at this job, but will need help working with teachers and the company that creates all of the products to ensure that all artwork gets done and turned in on time.

Golf Tournament - Our Spring Golf Tournament is always a fun time for parents, participants and volunteers, and is a great way to raise money for our school!  We are in need of a coordinator or co-coordinators to head up this great event.  In addition, help with Player recruiting, Prizes and raffle items, Sponsorships, Marketing/Advertising, Food and beverages, Tournament Day volunteers.

Staff Appreciation - Kelley Bodine did a fantastic job last year, and will once again oversee this event in the Spring when we spend a week showing our amazing Wee Wuns teachers and staff just how much we appreciate all they do for our kids. She will need donations from parents and assistance coordinating all the great surprises for the teachers.

Please consider heading up, or assisting with one or more FIA positions.  No experience is necessary, and we need your help to continue to make Wee Wuns an incredible learning experience for our children.  We look forward to working with you!!
